You know, the gloves thing always seemed a bit of an odd choice, but
mainly because I recall that there were several really nice MA-ish
handslot items (ofc my memory is shot these days).

Either way when I imagine black-belts and the like, a belt slot
guild item certainly 'feels' right too...and without any research
I'd guess there's likely a few really nice MA belt-slot items that
would be put to bed with that change too eheh (although some
checking looks like just Zapa and Liz God belts would make the
list...looks like thin belt is for those MA tanks* pfrsk)

I couldn't agree more. Having studied martial arts myself and
mastering the mighty green belt with a blue stripe, I also think one
could have a LOT of fun coding the color change along with the guild
progression.

Personally, i agree with this sentiment. I would also like to see
warrior guild item not be a belt. Not sure what it would be better
as, but I always thought that belt was a silly slot for warriors. If
both warrior and MA were belt, all dex/str belts would be for
woodsman alone.

So, not that I'm going to change this at all, what slots would you
guys rather see warrior belt be?

oh, i forgot about lurker. guess lurker and woodsman could use them.
Still seems like warrior would enjoy these belts more than MA.

And while I see the sentiment is shared, it is Lurker/Woodsy's left,
but I also agree that warrior's being handed belt slot seemed a bit
off as well...I tend to see something like helm or torso (something
significant) as being more fitting of the class (and would lean
toward head slot myself).

Also love the idea of the guild item desc changing as your rank
increases *coughs*jeebus more coding requests*coughs*

ooo, help would be cool. naraku helm lovers would shit bricks though.

I don't think it's actually feasible to change warrior's guild item
without pissing off 90% of the warriors out there. While I'm all for
making enemies for reasons I see as being worthwhile, sadly warrior
has been the way it is for ages now, I don't think people would
enjoy an eq change like that (no belts have been added that are
really very warriorish, but helms have been.)

Dunno. I think changing things like this would be cool, but I think
it'd take a new mud to have people not gripe about unnecessary
changes (even though, IMO, changes to make things be more colorful
or in-game logical are fun and totally necessary).

The slot that would make the most sense for warrior would be a
weapon slot, though a simple change would introduce some obvious
issues either with respect to weapon preferences, or with respect to
theme. One way this could be done without those thematic and
functional issues however, would be to give warriors an option to
reconfigure (in the thematic sense: 'exchange') their weapon at the
warrior guild to another weapon type.

As for martial artist having a belt-slot guild eq, the only sense
this makes is embedded in popular western culture's view of a system
devised by a few Japanese masters in the 1920's. The martial arts
have been around for many centuries, and according to what little
reliable info I could find, the belt-based ranking system hasn't
even been around for one century. The regional Renshi of the style I
was trained in taught us this also, though only because someone in
one of my classes asked about 'ancient artifact belts' of the
style's historical masters. If any single slot for MA does make
sense, then either a kimono (torso) or pants (legs) would probably
be at the top of that list, as these two garments have been commonly
used as standard attire for open-hand combat training for longer
than any other single garment still used today.

isn't it a right of passage or something that all new wizzies must
undertake the stronghold test? =)
